Małopolska is one of the economic leaders in Poland, generating 8.2% of the national GDP. Spending on research and development accounts for 2.51% of GDP, the highest in the country. The region is also in the lead in terms of the number of inventions reported and patents granted, confirming its position as an innovation leader.

Membership in the Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies (NEREUS) allows Małopolska to participate in shaping European space policies, bringing benefits to the regional economy and its residents.
